grapefruit seed extract...

So we had a little panic tonight and I will be honest, I was the normal panic-ky one and Tony (of course) was the steady rock! {I love you, dear husband of mine, so much that there are not enough words to express!!!}

Allow me to set the scene... Tony was in the shower, I was putting clothes away, Avery was asleep in her bouncy seat and Addie was in the living room watching Ratatouille. As I came in from the bedroom to the living room I noticed Addie has this bottle of something and there is liquid coming out of her left eye. I immediately grab her and the bottle, throw her in the shower with Tony and we start rinsing out her eye. She wasn't reacting to anything until I did (totally bad parenting on my part!) and then she was spooked. She didn't like that we had to rinse her eyes, she didn't like the fact that she was wet again, she didn't like the fact that we had to use saline solution in addition to the water... poor toddler was not a happy camper.
The bottle was a product known as GSE, grape seed extract that is used to kill germs in a non-toxic way. See the bottle looks like the eye drops I use to put in my eyes when my contacts are dry. That article from PARENTS magazine about kids watching what you do and trying to do it themselves hit the nail on the head tonight. Seeking peace of mind, we called poison control and they said we did everything by the book and to check on Addie in the morning. They also told us that the best thing Addie did was cry since it helped cleanse the area. So, you ask why blog about this??? Simply as a therapeutic measure for me... and to ask for your prayers that her eye be fine tomorrow. I guess you could say that in the back of my head, anything that happens to Addie my mind immediately goes back to Oct 2006 when she was burned with hot water at a restaurant when she was only 2 months old. Your prayers are appreciated and I promise to keep ya'll updated!
