Please Welcome Avery Lynn!!!

The newest addition to our family was born on Saturday morning at 5:44am, weighing in at 7 lbs. 9oz. and 19.5 inches long. The story of her arrival has been described as straight out of the movies. You all know how honest I am so I am telling the story as is, so I apologize if it gets a little silly, long winded here are there!
It all started around the time of my last post, I started feeling a little pressure here and there... but wrote it off as the final stages of the ever-so-attractive-gassy part of pregnancy. I will admit, I was in total denial and as we later found out gas does not come in a pattern every 10, 8, 5 minutes. I had my mother start logging my "gas" around 7:30pm and realized around 10pm it was time to make arrangements to have Hannah come be with Addie. As much as I wanted what I was experiencing not to be labor, my "mommy instincts" kicked in and knew I needed to make sure Addie was taken care of. Our dear, sweet Hannah came right over and was more than happy to be with Addie.
Around midnight, my contractions were 6 minutes apart and getting stronger. It was time to get in the truck and head to Stanford. Since I was in labor, my mother was the one who drove the truck to the hospital. I love my mother dearly, but there are two things that scare her when it comes to driving... freeways and big vehicles. Unfortunately, the quickest way to the hospital involved both! She was a trooper (no pun intended) and got us up to the hospital. As we were leaving the apartment complex I knew I had to make a phone call... I had to call Tony (even though it was almost 3am his time). I didn't know what to say, I was trying to hold it together but all I kept thinking was "I promised, I promised to lay on my side and be pregnant until he gets home!" Now I know, I have no control and that God has a plan... I just couldn't find the words... what was I going to tell him? So... I make the phone call, he answers (half asleep) and all I can say is "honey, I am sorry!" He immediately starts consoling me and telling me all the special, loving things that were coming from the bottom of his heart... we were praying, focusing on what good hands we were in, God is in control, etc. I explained I was in labor, gave him the stats on my contractions and how mom was driving us up to the hospital. I told him I would call him back once we got in to see the nurses and had an update.
As I am on the phone with Tony, having contractions and giving mom directions we made it to the hospital. However, we missed the turn into the emergency entrance and mom needed to turn around. So, instead of going around the "round-about" mom whipped a U-turn. Now, keep in mind that we are in the Avalanche and that puppy doesn't turn on a dime. After making the U-turn we notice these lights flashing... then we realize that it is a cop and we are being pulled over. Mom threw the truck in park and jumped out of the vehicle yelling "My daughter is in labor, where is the ER ?" The poor policeman was shocked (we are so lucky he didn't shoot) and jumped behind his vehicle. Once he realized what my mom was asking, he gave us directions and we were on our way. Only when she got back in the truck did she realize how badly that could have gone.
We made it to the hospital and since I was dilated  to a 5 it was time to be admitted and get things going. From this point on, time just flew by. The contractions were getting closer and before we knew it Dr. Matteri was in the room and we were getting ready for Avery's grand entrance. Words cannot express the amount of respect and admiration I have for Dr. Matteri. She was getting things ready and informed me that we are going to be having this baby the good old fashioned way and that a C-section was not needed. I had always said that I prayed for three things; a healthy baby, for Tony to be there and to have her the good old fashioned way (with the magic of an epidural of course!) So, I made one last phone call to Tony, started crying and then it was time to start pushing. I didn't have to push long, only twice in fact and pop... here she was! I was truly blessed to have a quick labor with no other after effects (for you men, if you don't know what this means, ask the women in your life... I will let them explain)
Once Dr. Matteri put Avery on my chest, she looked up at me and I couldn't stop crying. I called Tony right away and sent him the first picture of his brand new baby girl (cell phone technology is priceless!) She has a full head of dark hair like me and is so tiny! We are so thankful for her and she is healthy!!!
Now that you have heard the story, here are the pics you have all been waiting for!
Avery and I... so thankful she is here
Getting weighed, measured and monitored...
Sisters meeting for the first time... Addie kept saying "baby" over and over again.
 Pretty in pink...
Time to go home... we were able to leave the hospital Sunday night in time to be home before Tony got back from St. Louis. Here is a pic with our darling nurse, she was awesome!!!
