another 'mommy' moment...

So today was picture day... I got the girls up, breakfast was all ready for them to munch on while I did their hair and finished up packing for the day. Addison wanted to wear her Easter dress with her Fancy Nancy purple pumps {not preschool friendly} so I figured bringing along an extra set of clothes would be a good idea... or so I thought!?!? When I attempted to help her change clothes after she politely posed for her picture Addison threw a ginormous tantrum. She started crying and sobbing which captured the attention of her classmates who stopped what they were doing and came over to check on her...now, in order to properly set the scene you need to know that Addison is a little socialite in her class and her buddies are very caring little 3 & 4 year olds... so as I am trying to put Addison's tennis shoes on I notice a little circle of her friends start to surround us. As I look up one of the girls asked why Addison was crying and before I could come up with a good enough answer to ease the mind of a 3 year old another little girl looked at me straight in the eye and with this little firm yet kind voice said "you're not supposed to make her cry" as if she was speaking from months and months of experience {I would say years, however she maybe has 4 at best}. My mind went blank... then her words sunk in...ouch!!! Don't get me wrong, she was an adorable little girl... absolutely precious and beyond observant! I felt like the meanest mommy in the whole wide world! At this point Addison's crying had become contagious and others started to shed tears {sympathetic tears because they didn't think Addison should have to give up her Fancy Nancy shoes!} so the director of the school walked in and asked what was going on... I raised my hand {as if I was in the class} and fessed up that I was the one who caused all the ruckus! Luckily the director let me off easy and I didn't have to write "I will not make my toddler cry" 100 times on the chalkboard!
