My dear friend Rachel has been organizing and fundraising for the pink ribbon over the past few months and this morning we woke up early, bundled up from head to toe in pink and headed out to the making strides walk in downtown San Jose. A few of the other niner ladies joined us with their kids dressed toasty warm and the four legged children decked out with pink ribbons. It was pretty chilly but the great conversation helped keep us warm and entertained as we walked to make a difference.
After a couple stops for diapers, snacks and something to drink we had fallen behind the rest of the ladies yet we decided to press on. We made friends with those who passed us by {slower traffic always stays to the right} and Addie insisted on thanking each and every officer who stopped traffic. It was incredibly touching to see the faces of the survivors, the tears of the family members who were remembering loved ones and truly moving when one sweet woman who had been a two-time survivor gave Addie a little toy to play with and to say thank you Addie gave the woman a big girl hug. It was precious!
The walk was great for Addie and she was a real trooper since she didn't want to sit down in the double stroller. Avery fell asleep about a mile into the walk which was to be to be expected since she had been up early. Addie was bouncing, jumping, singing all throughout the walk until she tripped and ended up scuffing herself up just a little. Overall she was fine but nothing helps stop the tears like a hug and some pumpkin loaf from Starbucks! We were already 3/4 of the way done with the walk so after our little detour we met up with the other ladies for a group shot. Sadly, my camera was wrapped up carefully {on the christmas waiting list for padded camera bag} in the stroller so the moment passed. It's alright though, I am sure I can swap pics with one of the other ladies. At the end of the walk, Addie decided to blow bubbles at her baby sister. Avery loved every minute of it!!!
